"Mictlan Margarita | Crafted Pour"

"I made this recipe for the 2018 Herradura Legends competition in Atlanta. Since it was fall, I wanted to show love for The Day of the Dead, to create a drink I could proudly serve you or your ancestors. I started with the Herradura Blanco and added agave and fresh lime, but I also added a bit of orange blossom which is used to commune with the dead on this holiday. The floral notes play nicely with the classic Margarita format and the electric bitters pulled the whole recipe together. Acmella Oleracea, Electric Daisy, Szechuan Buttons, Toothache plant and Buzz button are all different names given to the main ingredient in my custom bitters for this cocktail. I chose to use this botanical for its mouth numbing properties to add a surprising component to the drink, to create a other worldly mouthfeel. Careful though, you only need a dash or two. The cocktail is garnished with 2 golden Marigolds and a skull apple which are also favorites of the other side. Light a candle and have a cheers to the ones we lost but still love and remember.
