"Scofflaw" is a word that was created in answer to a contest by the Boston Herald newspaper in 1924, while America was riding out Prohibition, and many Americans were finding creative, clandestine, and criminal ways to escape temperance. It is defined as “a lawless drinker of illegally made or illegally obtained liquor.” In honor of this neologism, a bartender at Harry's New York Bar in Paris created this balanced and refreshing drink, originally using Canadian Rye Whiskey (since American Rye Whiskey was not being legally made).
