"Blanton's Rocks | Crafted Pour"

"As devotes of the Buffalo Trace Distillery will know, it can be difficult, if not impossible to find their top shelf Blanton’s Single Barrel product. When a bottle fell into our lap, some in our social group said it needed to be savored neat, while others advocated for a night of top shelf Old Fashioneds. I started to wonder if one could serve both interests in the same glass. Flavored ice is at least 100 years old. The key element of this recipe is that ice cubes are flavored with just the right ratio of simple syrup and bitters so that two cubes added to a 2 OZ whisky pour are roughly equivalent to a standard Old Fashioned preparation. Your first few sips allow you to appreciate the unadulterated whisky. As the cubes slowly melt the first bit of dilution mixes with the aromatic oils in the whisky to bring out all those natural flavors. Then, as you swirl the drink, the sugars and bitters are released and the cocktail morphs into a delicious Old Fashioned. If you prefer a dryer cocktail, add one cube instead of two. These “rocks” also work great for a self-serve Old Fashioned party. Just make several batches of cubes the day before and set them out in a chilled bowl (on ice) along with a few bottles of your favorite whiskeys.
