"Some weeks ago I was fortunate to log onto Instagram at the right time and ended up winning a gift certificate to the Minnesota-based Dampfwerk Distillery, leading me to pick up an absolutely delicious pear brandy from them (note their cocktail lounge is a great atmosphere with tasty drinks and everyone I met there was wonderful, definitely recommend stopping by, I have three times and counting).
One issue I ran into while trying to make a cocktail with the brandy was I kept making things that were tasty but ultimately not something I'd go for over a neat pour of the brandy. Ultimately I had the inspiration to work it into one of my favorite drinks, the Fairy Godmother by the Moody Mixologist and it worked wonderfully with the absinthe (granted I kind of feel that way about everything). The brandy took the place of the elderflower for sweetening, though I did find I had to add some more sweetener back in, and the honey give it some nice body. After a couple more tweaks for balance I ended up with this lovely drink.
I recommend Dampfwerks Distillery pear brandy and Oregon Spirits absinthe.",
