"#whatifwednesday TLDR: would you lie to a date about your profession? ✈️ Today’s drink is a deconstructed Cosmopolitan riff which, naturally, led me to thinking about Sex And The City. One of my favorite things about re-watching the first five seasons of this show when I had the flu last spring was seeing the women navigate the dating scene pre-internet. Instead of swiping, they had chance encounters, sloppy bar pick-ups, and ex-boyfriend swap parties. It still wasn’t easy, but at least they had variety. ✈️ One of my favorite episodes involves Miranda going to a speed-dating event. After a series of men lose interest in her when she tells them she’s a lawyer, she lies to one and says she’s a “stewardess.” He smiles and makes a plan to go out with her, leading her to test the theory that men don’t want to date powerful or accomplished women. ✈️ I’ve lied about what I do for a living a few times when I’ve met someone new; not because I’m powerful, but because 1) nobody knows what a behavior analyst does and I get tired of explaining it, and 2) I get even more tired of dudes saying, “Are you analyzing my behavior right now?” in response 😂 But I’ve never pretended to be anything as fun as a flight attendant. Have you, or would you, ever lie about your day job to a date? Tell me in the comments! ✈️ “Cabin Crew” -1.5 oz Red Apple and Ginger Root Vodka - @chakravodka -0.75 oz Cointreau -0.75 oz Verjus - @wolffer -2.0 oz unsweetened cranberry juice, frozen - @rwknudsen Mocktail version - replace liquor with apple cinnamon iced tea. ✈️ Swapping the lime for Verjus helped add back in some sweetness to balance the tart cranberry juice. It was really fun to keep sipping on this and taste the flavor progression as the juice ice melted. The original Cosmo recipe (I used one from @liquor again) only calls for 0.5 oz of cranberry cocktail, so a smaller ice mold or cube could do the trick as well.
