"Nouvelle Estrada | Crafted Pour"

"I designed this cocktail for an instagram event based on the song “You Can Sleep While I Drive” by Melissa Etheridge. Bastardized between French and Portugese, this Vieux Carre balances Avua’s delicious aged cachaça in a change of pace with Knob Creek Rye and Pierre Ferrand’s amazing cognac. Italien Ramazzoti and Spanish Sherry takes the place of sweet vermouth while the additional French Benedictine helps compensate for the less sweet fortified wine. A healthy dose of Peychaud’s and Creole Bitters rounds the cocktail out, leaning into the vibe of the song of wanting to drive to getaway and opening up a few new roads. The balance here was hard to strike, it took about 4 remakes till I got it, but once I did this complex riff was WELL worth it, silky smooth and capturing the essence of the original while breaking new ground.
