"So another year is coming to an end and I’ve been meaning to find a cocktail that would be suitable to serve after the New Year’s dinner for our closest friends. Apart from the pre-dinner and midnight champagne cocktails I want to serve something that is not based on sparkling wine. One of my favorite Youtubers, Anders Erickson, posted this recipe and I couldn’t really imagine at all what this would taste like so this is something I had to try.
This is by far the most adult cocktail I’ve tried and as Anders says it feels really fancy - hence the name. With the bergamot from the Italicus, sherry and tequila mix this has a really complex flavour palette that is quite hard to describe. I was playing around with the ratios but the equal parts wast just the perfect balance. I did find it had a tad bitter tone despite using red grapefruit for the glass rim and garnish so I made a saline solution to reduce the bitterness and to enhance the sweetness of the citrus from the Italicus and grapefruit. Also to give it a rounder flavour.
Saline solution
I mixed approximately 1dl water and a teaspoon or two of salt and let the salt dissolve. If the solution is super salty just add a few drops but I mixed around a teaspoon in the drink.
Add equal parts of the spirits and the saline solution in a mixing glass with ice. Stir until cold.
Cut a zest of the grapefruit and squeeze the oil over the drink and rub the glass rim and voilà.",
