"I've been thumbing through Shannon Mustipher's "Tiki: Modern Tropical Cocktails" and my first impression was that some of these drinks are a bit too much of a stretch for what we typically consider an exotic cocktail. That's still my opinion on some of the drinks, but I'm trying to apply some of the book's general ethos to my own recipes. This is a first crack at that. A beautifully unique blend of Latin American spirits provides the base, with tart grapefruit and guava serving as the next layer. Honeyed sweetness fattens it up and the the classic single dash of Ango brings everything together in this earthy elixir. Recommended brands: •Avua Amburana cachaça •Flor de Caña 12 Y.O. rum •Sombra mezcal Ingredients: - Pot Still Aged Cachaça - Column Still Aged Rum Instructions: Combine all ingredients in a drink mixer tin. Blend for 5 seconds. Open pour into a double old fashioned glass or tiki mug. Top with more ice if necessary. Garnish with a grapefruit twist, lime wedge and mint sprig.
