Named for a popular hiking trail in the Mad River Valley Burnt Rock Bourbon was an accidental experiment turned right. Our Head Distiller Al came up with the idea to smoke barley over maple wood and add it to a Bourbon mash. With a combination of 70% Corn 15% Rye and 15% Smoked Barley the Burnt Rock Bourbon is especially unique. This whiskey explodes with flavor and spice with just a touch of smoke.  92 proof. Mad River Burnt Rock Bourbon

A classic American Spirit with a unique Vermont twist. Our award-winning bourbon has a wonderful deep and rich aroma of Vermont-grown corn smokiness on the palate and a smooth aromatic finish.  Bourbon has become ‚ÄúThe American Spirit‚Äù in a way that cognac represents France gin represents England and vodka represents Russia in the hearts of their consumers. We offer our own special Vermont take on the liquid gold so associated with Appalachia. We use only regionally-sourced non-GMO grains and mature our bourbons on site in the clear clean air of Vermont.  Our bourbon has a wonderful deep and rich aroma of Vermont-grown corn smokiness on the palate and a smooth aromatic finish. Since bringing our bourbon to market in May of 2014 we have been selling it at local farmers markets the distillery and of course through the Vermont state liquor stores. Mad River Bourbon

Our most awarded spirit our rye is carefully fermented from local and organic rye. It is earthy and peppery with hints of walnut berry and tropical spice and the chocolate malted rye lends a cocoa richness and finish.  The "traditional" American spirit using local and regional rye. In 1799 at the time of George Washington‚Äôs death his estate was the largest producer of whiskey in the United States turning out 11000 gallons of rye each year.  Between the combination of Prohibition and the availability of cheaper alternative grains rye gradually fell out of favor.  A decade ago you would be hard pressed to find a single bottle of rye on the back shelf of a bar. Since then Washington‚Äôs spirit has seen something of a rebirth and small American craft distilleries have taken up the challenge to re-create the magic of this peppery and complex distillate.  At Mad River Distillers we take this one step further.  Our rye whiskey is carefully fermented from local and organic rye and distilled using our German still to bring out its delicate nuances.  It is earthy and peppery with hints of walnut berry and tropical spice. We use three distinct rye varietals including chocolate malted rye which lends the spirit a cocoa richness and finish. We use an ‚Äúall rye‚Äù mash bill with a portion of ‚Äútoasted rye‚Äù which releases aromatic chocolate and mocha notes into the distillate.
