Fresh grapefruit cut into a wedge or wheel — used to garnish Paloma, grapefruit spritz, gin-grapefruit highballs, and brunch cocktails. Provides bright pink-citrus aroma when expressed over the drink, ruby visual accent, and an edible squeeze for the drinker to adjust acidity. Distinct from lemon, lime, and orange wedges in aroma profile (more tart-bitter, less sweet) and from dehydrated grapefruit wheels (no fresh juice oils).
