Garden Heat

Spicy Mezcal Margarita

Thin rounds of fresh jalapeño, seeds intact for heat — the defining spicy garnish of the spicy margarita and paloma.

This is a preparation, not a packaged product: buy a whole fresh jalapeño and slice it crosswise into rounds about 1/8 inch thick. Leave the seeds and white pith in for full heat, or remove them for a milder drink. Muddle 2–3 rounds in the shaker to carry spice through the drink, or float a single round on top as garnish.
