A few months ago, a good friend asked me to make him a Red Hook cocktail. A mix of rye whiskey, maraschino and vino amaro. No pun intended but it was delicious, and I was hooked. This is my play on this contemporary classic coming from Milk & Honey in 2003 by Vincenzo Errico. Happy Sipping! 😋

View MoreThis cocktail is batched 1-liter 100-proof rye whiskey 500ml Cherry Morlacco 500ml Punt E Mes Batch in a container with 3 charred Palo santo wood sticks and 4oz toasted sesame oil. Freeze overnight and strain out frozen oil & Palo Santo through a coffee filter or cheesecloth. Stir 3oz with 2 dashes of orange bitters. Strain into a Nick & Nora glass. Garnished with a peated scotch spritz (using an atomizer), expressed orange peel, and Toasted sesame seed coated luxardo cherry.
Editor's Note
Fat-washed with toasted sesame oil and infused with Palo Santo, this Red Hook riff adds savory depth to the classic rye-and-cherry profile. A peated scotch spritz provides a smoky, aromatic finish.
