Submitted on: March 19, 2021
This enduringly popular concoction was born in 1949 in Belgium. Gustave Tops created both the White Russian and the Black Russian (same minus the cream) while tending bar at the Hotel Metropole in Brussels. But the drink's fame skyrocketed when it played onscreen companion to Jeff Bridges' The Dude in the cult classic The Big Lebowski.

Build in a rocks glass. Pour vodka and Kahlua over ice, then top with heavy cream.
Editor's Note
A classic dessert cocktail. The heavy cream provides a rich, velvety texture that balances the intense sweetness of the coffee liqueur.
