The chocolate and coffee flavours are a fantastic pairing with the bourbon and make a wonderful after dinner drink. I tried this using a coffee liqueur and using chilled espresso with a bit of simple syrup, and both are great drinks (the espresso version is less sweet).

In place of the coffee liqueur, you can substitute 1 oz (30 mL) of chilled espresso and 0.5 oz (15 mL) simple syrup. Either dark or clear crème de cacao work well in this recipe.
Editor's Note
Coffee and chocolate notes deepen the bourbon base in this rich after-dinner sipper. Orange bitters provide a necessary bright finish.

This sounds like a fantastic after-dinner treat! Do you have a preference between using the coffee liqueur or the fresh espresso version when you make it for yourself?

Love a good old Fashione. And this pairs some of my favorite flavors.
