Sometimes all it takes to inspire a cocktail is a great piece of fruit, and the nectarines at my local grocery store were especially fragrant this week. Add to that a basil plant in dire need of pruning and a great bottle of rum and you’ve got this drink.

1/2 oz
Lime Juice

1/3 oz
Simple Syrup

Nectarine

Spicy Maple Margarita

Add rum, lime juice and simple syrup to your glass, then add diced nectarine and 12-14 basil leaves (depending on the size of your basil) and muddle. Then add ice, top with seltzer and garnish with some basil and a wedge of nectarine.

A seasonal twist on the Mojito, swapping mint for aromatic basil. Muddling a whole fresh nectarine in the glass provides a rich, fruity sweetness that balances the rum and lime.
