My starting point for this recipe was Jeffrey Morgenthaler’s Bourbon Renewal, though it admittedly moved a little ways away. First of all, it doesn’t have bourbon—I subbed Canadian rye for a seasonally spicy base, with cinnamon and cranberry instead of simple syrup for the sweetener. Lengthened with soda to top it off, I’m very happy with how this one came out! Recommended brands: •J.P. Wiser’s Triple Barrel Rye •Odd Society Spirits crème de cassis •Fever Tree premium club soda
