Baratarian Brew
Submitted on: May 24, 2022
The inspiration for this one comes from the recipe Strange Brew in Death & Co Modern Classics. The Falernum and IPA just work so well together. I wanted to lean more towards the spice notes so the gin was replaced by rye and aged agricole and the Falernum for cinnamon and allspice Barataria Bay is an island in the Gulf of Mexico off the coast of Louisiana. In the early 19th century it was used by the French privateer and smuggler Jean Lafitte and other pirates, privateers and smugglers

Editor's Note
Rye and aged agricole rum anchor this beer-topped highball, trading gin for a spice-forward profile. The IPA provides a crisp, bitter finish that balances the cinnamon and allspice.

This sounds like a fantastic, complex riff on the original! The combination of rye and aged agricole with the IPA is a brilliant touch. Do you have a preferred style of IPA to use for this, or do you find a specific hop profile works best?
