Continuing down this archeological dig of ancient rums, Kohala Bay came up next. The rum that made the Mai Kai famous. Jim Hayward has done a lot of work to find a blend that mimics not only the flavor, but the abv, and distillation method of the original Kohala Bay Dark Rum. Now what cocktail to try it in? There are a few cocktails that supposedly really suffered when Kohala Bay was discontinued. The Mai Kai’s Barrel ‘O Rum happens to be one of those cocktails.
