Spirit Forward

While thinking about my Fall Cocktail Competition entry, my wife and I walked by our favorite tree in the neighborhood. We stood on a thick carpet of leaves, looking up at more of them as they swirled in the autumn breeze. The smell was incredible- that rich, earthy, spicy smell of autumn. I decided that I needed my cocktail to try and capture this moment. The colors. The smells. The comfort of my wife’s hand in mine. And a good flannel and scarf against the chill.

Maple Syrup

Place a large piece of ice in your glass and put your smoking chimney on top. Cut a small piece from your cinnamon stick and chop it small. Put the pieces in the smoker and ignite. Set this all aside to smoke. In a mixing glass, add Campari, scotch, bitters, and maple syrup. Add ice and stir until cold.
