This drink is a total conundrum. It wants to be a tiki drink. But I put it in a coupe. And topped it with beer. And used whiskey. What is it?!? What it is is delicious! The rye has notes of black pepper, burnt sugar and cinnamon. We echoed that with the pepper-infused Averna and the tiki bitters. Whiskey and tropical fruits are natural matches (try it!). It’s a surprisingly delicious cocktail! Cheers y’all!

Hi there! I've been a bartender at the same restaurant for over 10 years. My favorite spirits to work with are rum (love a good tiki drink!), gin and amaros. I love to garden and I often use the herbs and produce I grow to make syrups and infusions. Cheers y'all! ...

Editor's Note
Rye whiskey meets tropical tiki modifiers in this unexpected, layered build. A wheat beer float provides a crisp, effervescent finish to the spice-forward profile.

This is such a fascinating and bold combination of flavors! Do you happen to have the recipe for your black pepper-infused Averna so others can try making it at home?
