A tiki drink from the 1930's that calls for clairin, a Haitian style of rum similar to rhum agricole. I'm using a Haitian clairin/agricole blend called San Zanj. This cocktail is definitely funky so if you aren't into that style of rum you could swap it out.

Hi there! I've been a bartender at the same restaurant for over 10 years. My favorite spirits to work with are rum (love a good tiki drink!), gin and amaros. I love to garden and I often use the herbs and produce I grow to make syrups and infusions. Cheers y'all! ...

Editor's Note
Haitian clairin brings a vegetal, high-ester funk to this tiki classic. Falernum and pineapple provide the necessary tropical backbone to balance the spirit's intensity.

This sounds like a fantastic, complex take on a classic tiki profile! The use of clairin is such a great touch—do you have a favorite brand of grenadine you like to use for this, or do you make your own?
