This drink is a Manhattan riff built around a red wine barrel-aged whiskey that brings in some nutty, rich sherry and spice-forward, bitter Fernet Vallet. Along with some cola notes from a root beer syrup, this one is deceptively complex yet familiar.

I love trying new ingredients, learning new techniques, and of course, creating new cocktails-- especially ones influenced by food in some way. I also love the photography/videography side of things. I’m incredibly passionate about my craft but try not to take myself too seriously. Cheers!...

View MoreThe syrup is made by reducing root beer by ~50% and adding white sugar (7:5 ratio soda to sugar by weight) and stirring until dissolved. Stir all ingredients with ice until chilled. Strain into glass, garnish, and enjoy!
Editor's Note
Red wine barrel-aged whiskey meets Amontillado sherry in this complex Manhattan riff. A house-made root beer reduction adds a layer of spice that ties the bitter and nutty elements together.

This sounds like a fantastic, complex riff on a classic! Do you have a favorite brand of root beer you prefer to use for the reduction to get that perfect flavor profile?
